Frequently Asked Questions

WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A GRANITE AND A QUARTZ WORKTOP?

Granite is a naturally occurring stone that is quarried. It is an igneous rock that is composed various rocks and minerals. The colouring of granite varies not just from site to site, but within the stones themselves. Granite is durable and strong, however, it is a naturally porous rock and must be sealed. Granite is easy to clean and requires yearly sealing.

Quartz worktops are man made using 90-95% quartz, resin, and add-ins like tints and other stones. Often, quartz worktops are made to simulate natural stone, however, some worktops come in hues not seen in nature. Quartz is durable, strong, and nonporous. It requires no sealing and is easy to clean.

WHICH IS MORE EXPENSIVE?

Cost varies across both types of worktops.

The cost of granite depends on where it was quarried, how common the stone itself is, and the cost of transportation.

The cost of quartz depends on the manufacturer and the add-ins used. Quartz is often broken up into groups. We currently offer four different groups, with 1 being the least expensive and 4 being the most.

The least expensive option is generally a group 1 quartz worktop, however, because you will be living with your worktop choice for a long time, we recommend you focus on what you like rather than cost.

IS GRANITE OR QUARTZ BETTER?

The best way to determine whether a granite or quartz worktop is better for you is to consider how it will be used and your level of commitment. Both granite and quartz worktops have their benefits.

Granite worktops are strong, durable, and highly sought after. They can help increase the value of your home. However, granite worktops will require yearly sealing to keep them looking great.

Quartz worktops are also strong and durable. They are nonporous and heat-resistant.

Do I need to do anything before you make your worktop template?

Should I be present during the templating process?

Not only would we enjoy meeting you but your presence will ensure that we have all the information we need to fabricate your new kitchen worktop. We’ll need you or a representative to be onsite during templating and installation to discuss the details like jointing and upstand height. That way, everything is to your specifications. Plus, we’ll need you to sign off on the work.

HOW LONG DOES THE PROCESS TAKE?

Ideally, a new worktop is templated and installed within 7 to 12 working days. For example, if we template on a Monday, we hope to fit and install a new worktop the following week by Tuesday or Wednesday. However, scheduling is dependent on our diary, which is often filled about 2-4 weeks in advance. Once you commit to a new worktop, we can work together to determine your ideal schedule. On occasion, turnaround may be longer, especially if we need to special order materials, however, you will always be informed if this is the case. We are always clear about timelines because we know your time is valuable. We will never give you a date we cannot stick to.

HOW DOES PAYMENT WORK?

Based on the plan and dimensions you give us, we’ll provide you with an estimate. If you decide to move ahead with us, we ask for a £350 deposit which allows us to book a date.

Once templating is completed, the final price will be confirmed. Generally, it will only change if the dimensions vary from those used in your initial estimate or if you change the colour or features you want.

We then require a 40% deposit for materials after we have confirmed the template. The remaining balance is then due on the day of installation via debit or credit card.

What If I notice that something is wrong once the stone has been installed?

We then require a 40% deposit for materials after we have confirmed the template. The remaining balance is then due on the day of installation via debit or credit card.
